Mother's Day Outing

There were so many events and specials for Mother's Day 2024 that it was hard for Junior to choose his next stop for the blog. Junior ended up taking his Grandma and I to a few places for a very successful Mother's Day weekend. So first, head to Belle Plaine with us!
Ellis Island Farm
Located at 431 N Merchant St in Belle Plaine.

Business hours are Tuesday through Friday 9 am - 6 pm and Saturday 9 am - 3 pm.

When you read "farm" did you think animals, land and maybe some wheat? Well, you're on the right track except this is more of a farm to table shop that features multiple vendors. This shop offers a variety of home grown and made products by both the owner and the other listed small businesses.
This store didn't even exist a year before we went to visit, but the owner of Ellis Island saw a need for a grocery store and somewhere for local "homemade" products to be found in this small town! From fresh produce, jellies and herbs to laundry soap, wallets and jewelry you can find a variety of products here. Plus, you won't want to miss out on their famous Bacon salt.
Barely a year in business and they continue to grow. Ellis Island scheduled a remodel to be done before their first year anniversary. Sadly, we have no feedback about the updates but we can't wait to see how much progress they made with it. 
Junior challenges you to go to Belle Plaine, check out their remodel and get some of that Bacon salt!

The Mystic Kitchen

The Mystic Kitchen has a menu full of home cooked meals including sandwiches, salads, baked goods and more. They even offer a variety "for the littles". 
Each week they offer a special menu featuring a specific meal for lunch and dinner. Junior happened to bring us while they were doing their Monte Cristo special. We decided to split our meals up to try a little bit of everything. It was all so delicious!
Ellis Island Farm and The Mystic Kitchen are two of the businesses in Belle Plaine that participate in 3rd Saturdays. You can find them both open and running. In fact, The Mystic Kitchen runs an "all you can eat" breakfast Buffet special and Ellis Island Farm welcomes outside vendors to set up for a small fee.

Junior and I hope each Mom felt blessed this Mothers day. You're doing great.

Welcome to my newest chapter of supporting South Central, KS small shops.  Today, it was decided that Junior was taking us to check out Peck, Kansas. Rumor actually has it that he wanted to be able to eat at their yummy burger barn in town, should have known! So, we headed over to Peck for his first visit to Boudreux Burger Barn and I must say none of us were disappointed with their food or service. Chisholm Trail Pt 1

Junior heard that there was a Chisholm Trail Festival going on in Caldwell, KS so he wanted to go for his first time to find out what it was all about. Plus, there were a few small businesses located here that he was already wanting to go see! Between the settlement of the Old West and the cattle drives, Caldwell remains the Border Queen town. Let's see what this little hard working town has to offer! Junior had to make sure we had a kick start to our day of adventures since he had been keeping Mom up all week teething! So, we have our first stop at this adorable, affordable and aesthetically pleasing shop. Suzy's Bakery & Coffee Shop Located at 17 N Main St in Caldwell. Rainy Days

Saturday was filled with thunderstorms which was sad for Junior because he loves to be outside! Junior decided even if it was raining there was a small business he could support. Somewhere. Somehow. Then it hit him! Something that would be inside and entertaining, a movie. Junior took us to downtown Wellington, Kansas to check out the Regent Theater.  Regent Theater Located at 114 W Lincoln Ave in Wellington. Business hours(show times) tend to be Friday at 7 pm and Saturday/Sunday at 2 pm and 7 pm.  Contact: 620-326-6843 Can also be found on Facebook at "Wellington Regent Theater".  This local theater has very affordable admission prices at $6 for children and $8 for adults!  They also offer party and special showings outside of normal showtimes, contact them for booking availability and pricing details.  The one thing Junior can't have yet is the best thing I think sells at the concessions, Popcorn!
